NIA Chair Sets 2026 Agenda, Hails Reform Gains, Industry Milestones

The Chairman of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), Kunle Ahmed, has outlined an ambitious agenda for 2026, urging chief executives of member companies to consolidate recent gains and collaborate closely on implementing the Nigeria Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA).

In a New Year message to industry leaders, Ahmed praised the resilience and collaborative spirit of insurers, crediting them with strengthening public confidence and advancing market development throughout 2025.

“The past year was transformative for the Association and the industry,” Ahmed said, citing initiatives that expanded market depth, enhanced stakeholder engagement, and amplified the industry’s public voice.

NIA to host 250 Delegates at 2025 WAICA Conference in Lagos, Nigeria

The Nigerian Insurance Industry is set to host no fewer than 250 foreign and local delegates for the 2025 West Africa Insurance Companies Association (WAICA) Education Conference, scheduled to take place from Sunday, 12 October to Wednesday, 15 October 2025 at the Grand Ballroom of Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.

UNDP partners NAICOM, NIA, NCRIB on Insurance Literacy, Consumer Protection Campaign

The Nigerian Insurers Association(NIA) on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, represented its member companies at the 2025 United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Insurance Literacy and Consumer Protection Campaign held at the Balogun Business Association Square(BBA), ASPAMDA Market, Lagos International Trade Fair, Badagry Road, in Lagos.

The campaign, scheduled to hold across different states of the country, including the FCT, is in collaboration with the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), the Nigerian Insurers Association(NIA) and the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers(NCRIB).

NIA, represented by Mr Soji Oni, Controller Technical, explained risk management mechanisms for
market risk improvement during the campaign.

The Nigerian National Bureau, in collaboration with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), is proud to celebrate the 42nd Anniversary of the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme. This significant milestone marks over four decades of successful implementation and operation of the scheme and its contributions to regional cooperation and integration.

Since its inception on May 29 1982, the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme has played a crucial role in facilitating the movement of persons and goods across the ECOWAS member states. The scheme provides compensation to road accident victims for bodily injury, death, and material damage within the ECOWAS region. This initiative has provided individuals and businesses with essential protection and peace of mind while promoting the free movement of goods and services within the region.

NAICOM Strengthens Path to Compliance of Insurance of Public Building

The National Insurance Commission, NAICOM, has moved a step further to ensure enforcement and monitoring of insurance of public buildings and buildings under construction.

In that regard, the Regulator, has inaugurated a 10 member stakeholder committee to ensure success and implementation of the law.
